A big moment for me! I must’ve gone through at least 30 Gibson SGs, but I never bought a signature one… maybe because I own a Jaydee… and never really felt the need… or also maybe because angus does not use his signature SG to play, he mainly uses that black one, right?

How cool is that.

But… a local sale popped up on wallapop… these guitars are fetching or at least being listed for crazy money… like €4k.. which for me is nuts, these were produced for like 9 years… there are plenty of them out there. So the price ppl want for them is nuts… it should be a 2500 guitar, tops.

Well.. a local sale popped up for 1700! (Which ain’t cheap) but it had a crack in the body… pictures didn’t do it any favours and it was collection only. Upon further inspection and talking to the seller… We agreed to ship and also he said it was just superficial.

Come next day… guitar arrives. It needed a lot of cleaning and new strings… it was stringed up with mixed up strings… fretboard full of sweat. Etc… not a very well cared for guitar… but the most important thing… the “crack” this ain’t no crack… I’m not sure how it happened… but it seems that it got stepped on or something of weight hit it on its side and it cracked the paint and a little bit the wood… but in a stronf area of the guitar… there is zero risk of this becoming an actual crack, it’s more like a deep scratch.

So? How’s the guitar? It’s great! But.. if you have watched Trogly’s video… I have the same mixup on mine… the 57 pickup was on the bridge and the AY on the neck… how’s that even possible?? Look at the solder… it’s intact!

So I swapped the pickups around and of course now rhythm is bridge and treble is neck… but it feels right. I only realised it because I had to take the pick guard off for cleaning. i tell you, this guitar was never cleaned!

It’s a cool guitar to have, nothing really special on it apart from Angu’s drawing on the headstock and the vibrola cover. It looks very cool.

Sound wise?, it’s an SG! Sounds great! The AY pickup is hot and has great sustain… and very workable feedback, which for me is crucial… Angus plays a lot with feedback.

The witchhat knobs are a nice touch!

The neck? It is not as narrow as my 71 Standard… it feels better, a bit more chunky which for me makes it more comfortable.

It’s an honest rock and roll machine! I wouldn’t pay 4 grand for it.. but if you find a good deal… get it!

Side by side the AY and the 71
