Like the SG isn’t the god of all guitars already! The SG Goddess is another SG that’s just a little bit different released around the period where GOW were released too… it looks like Gibson was experimenting with different models, colours and just doing cool stuff

So… just a regular SG with a different colour? Mmmm not really… there’s a very specific reason why I bought it… but let’s cover what it is first.
Ebony board, probably my favourite… I always end up gravitating towards my ebony board SGs.
Two knobs instead of four, to be fair… I only use the bridge pickup, so apart from aesthetics, I never really used the “other two knobs”
490/498 pickups: with a twist though.. the bridge pickup is a bit hotter than what we are used to!
Linear pots… in theory 300k (makes sense if the pickups are hotter) now… linear pots vs vintage taper pots… what’s that all about? Everyone raves about vintage taper, and I do too… but you know.. I’m kind of getting used to linear pots.. then my rhythm volume is on 4-5 and my solo volume is 10. As opposed to 8 and 10… so the “benefit” of a linear pot is that you can ballpark the position of the knob and you’ll be just about right, with vintage taper… you kind of need to be exactly where you need to be.
Blue Gibson logo! Yeah! I’ve been liking the widow maker SGs lately, so this blue lot really kind of checks that box, I really dig it!
Narrower nut? Mmm I have an early 71 which feels narrower.. so.. not scared by that and to be fair I didn’t feel it narrow or uncomfortable.
And the most important thing… no bridge!! Right… just a lightning stop bar… just like a Junior, which to me is one of the easiest SG to play, you see.. because there’s no bridge.. the bar takes the position of the bridge thus making the overall string length shorter which means.. less tension to reach the desired pitch, which translates into easier playing/bending.
You can see Angus in late 70s using his first SG with vibrola and bridge stripped out! Just a schaller 455 bridge and this always stuck with me, such a cool look!
I’ve already order the 455 to replace the lightning bridge, I already have one of these on my Malcolm Gretsch guitar.
All in all the goddess is just another SG, but nice colour… you can see the grain on this one.. one piece of wood! But I’ve seen a video from Troggly’s with a two piece one. I really enjoy this SG and will be seeing quite a bit of stage time 🙂
